Who is Central Texas Beauty College?
Central Texas Beaty College, or CTBC, has been family owned and operated in Temple and Round Rock for over 60 years. They provide the best education and training in the beauty industry for the best price; their graduates leave training debt-free thanks to grants and financial aid. CTBC hosts impressive guest speakers, career placement and a 100% State Board pass rate for the past seven consecutive years due to the dedication of the faculty and administrators.
While they have a polished professionalism in their practice, their website was not reflecting it. CTBC directly competes with the Aveda's and Paul Mitchell's of the world at a fraction of the price. We wanted to make sure that was communicated effectively in this website design.
User Stories
I began by dissecting the existing site, gathering all of the information and seeing where I could consolidate and simplify. I then wrote user stories to determine who would be visiting the CTBC website and why. This would help me prioritize information while developing wireframes and a site map.
Wireframes
Using a mobile-first approach, I developed wireframes for the enrollment application as a way to begin establishing type hierarchy, form design and a general gridded layout. I then moved to desktop wireframes, building every page before consulting with my team to get feedback and set a site map. While working on the basic design, I also wrote friendly, approachable supplemental copy to reinforce the helpfulness and commitment of CTBC.
